Soundset '09 Tomorrow

So this is Soundset weekend. There’s a ton of shit going on and a ton of people in town. I’m actually heading down to the festival grounds in Shakopee today to do some setting up and scope out the layout. I’ll be sure to do some twitpicing of what things are looking like whilst I’m there. I’ll also be doing twitter updates today to let you know how things are going in my world so stay tuned on that! If you’d like to follow me on twitter you can do so by clicking @jakemoney!

I had a great time making dinner for several friends who are in town for the weekend last night. My friend/intern “friendtern” @leiftheviking is in town helping out and is also crashing at the crib and my girl’s best friend @wRiTeToCrEaTe is in town from Vermont visiting for a while. I also had my by boy Abjekt in town from London. Had a great time kickin it with him and everyone who came out last night! I’m a bit hung over as I had one too many beers but ready to rock for the afternoon and get some more of this Soundset business banged out!

If you haven’t yet checked out the new Soundset Blog had I knocked out with my dude @joeydollaz peep it at www.soundsetfestival.com

EYEDEA & ABILITIES RELEASE FIRST ALBUM IN FIVE YEARS

So Eyedea & Abilities are back from whatever crazy adventures they’ve been on the last five years. Eyedea has worked with numerous side projects mainly dabbling with rock music (Carbon Carousel) & free expression and music with his project Face Candy. The record has a lot to offer the full and will satisfy any E&A fan. For those who love the E&A of the past you’ll get Eyedea doin his thing on the mic and Abilities destroying the turntables all with the newly infused influences as of late! If you were a fan in the past or are simply looking for some great music made by two amazingly talented musicians this album is definitely worth buying! The official Rhymesayers press release is below along with a link to download a free track off the album!

RHYMESAYERS ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE BY THE THROAT ON JULY 21

A duo thoroughly steeped in hip-hop accolades, the Minnesota-based duo Eyedea and Abilities have returned with their brand new album By The Throat, out July 21st on Rhymesayers Entertainment. Their first album since the breakout 2004 release E&A, By The Throat’s songs range from intensely personal topics to the more esoteric (quantum mechanics). The end result is leaps and bounds beyond what MC Eyedea is perhaps best known for, his prowess as a battle rapper (winner of HBO’s Blaze Battle, Scribble Jam and several others). DJ Abilities, also a well-known battle vet and contributor to El-P’s now-classic Fantastic Damage, adds heavily to the sonic soundscape of this album, which advances beyond boom-bap hip-hop into rock-fueled guitar riffs, gritty production and melodic songwriting.

For a look into By The Throat, download This Story free! (right click to download…)

Eyedea and Abilities were instrumental in the wave of independent hip-hop that includes Atmosphere, El-P, Aesop Rock, Living Legends and several other seminal acts. By The Throat is their most progressive and refined effort to date.

E & A will be performing at Rhymesayers’ Soundset ’09 on May 24th and will be headlining a tour in the fall of 2009. They have also been confirmed for the following Rock the Bells dates this summer.

Abstract Rude - "This Is The Life" excerpt

So I watched about 80% of this DVD about a week or so ago while I was getting this footage for today. It’s a really fresh documentary if you’re into those kinds of things. You don’t even really have to like hip hop to enjoy it. The history and the story alone are fascinating enough to keep you entertained. However if you like or love hip hop then you definitely need to pick up this DVD because it’s wicked awesome.

This is an excerpt featuring Abstract Rude from hip hop documentary “This Is The Life”. The DVD chronicles “The Good Life” emcees, Project Blowed, the alternative music movement they developed, and their worldwide influence on the art form. This segment focuses on Abstract Rude and his involvement with the project and hip hop in the early ’90s.

For more info on the film check out goodlifelove.ning.com. You can also pick it up at http://www.fifthelementonline.com.

Ab’s new record “Rejuvenation” drops May 5th so make sure you head out and grab that when it hits stores or buy it online…

New Abstract Rude Video - "Nuff Fire"

So the 4/20 holiday is approaching soon. We all know what that means. Smokin hella doobies son! Kidding. But it does mean that a lot of you and other people will be smoking pot so why not celebrate with Abstract Rude and his latest video “Nuff Fire” in support of his new record Rejuvenation. The one thing that benefits me each year is the head shop across the street brings in one of those carts from the fair that deep fries everything SO mini donuts, cheese curds and pretty much every other fried food will be available to me on that day. Can’t complain about that. Now as I wrote in the “official RSE news post” puff, puff, pass this shit on.
