Jake One drops new video "Home" off "White Van Music"

For those of you who love where you’re from as much as I do this video and song struck home pretty hard. I’m not from Seattle, I’m not even from MPLS but I’ll rep it hard because it’s the place that’s taken care of me it’s where I grew up and were my family is. You gotta love the love that these Seattle dudes got for their city!

Finally I’m happy to present the video to my tribute to Seattle, “Home”. The song features MC’s Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish, who have all big influences in music. Mix a Lot brought out his orange Lambo and Nate Burleson repped the town and the Seahawks as well. Super Director Zia did a phemomenal job creating the perfect visual for the music and now its time for the world to see it.

Brother Ali "Good Lord" Video Premeire!

Here’s our dude Ali’s latest video off the “Truth Is Here EP” for “Good Lord”. Text below was written by Ali…

I’m glad to finally show yall the new video for “Good Lord” from the “Truth Is Here EP” that dropped a few weeks ago.

The song is about spirituality and how it works alongside music. I get criticized from both angles on this issue. Some religious people say my music is too crude or obscene. People who hate religion say I talk about it too much. My feeling is that, when done right, spirituality and art are one and the same. The particular faith or medium of art almost doesn’t matter. That connection to each other is what we’re seeking. “Something spiritual happens when them hands get to clappin’.”

My good friend Rik Corderro shot the video at a community event we did in the historic Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Center in Harlem NY. This is the place where my hero, Malcolm X held his later meetings and was assassinated in 1965. If you pay attention, you’ll see Popmaster Fable (Rock Steady Crew) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (Tribe Called Quest) along with a host of prominent Muslim teachers and activists. Just wanted to show you how we get down from time to time.

EYEDEA & ABILITIES RELEASE FIRST ALBUM IN FIVE YEARS

So Eyedea & Abilities are back from whatever crazy adventures they’ve been on the last five years. Eyedea has worked with numerous side projects mainly dabbling with rock music (Carbon Carousel) & free expression and music with his project Face Candy. The record has a lot to offer the full and will satisfy any E&A fan. For those who love the E&A of the past you’ll get Eyedea doin his thing on the mic and Abilities destroying the turntables all with the newly infused influences as of late! If you were a fan in the past or are simply looking for some great music made by two amazingly talented musicians this album is definitely worth buying! The official Rhymesayers press release is below along with a link to download a free track off the album!

RHYMESAYERS ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE BY THE THROAT ON JULY 21

A duo thoroughly steeped in hip-hop accolades, the Minnesota-based duo Eyedea and Abilities have returned with their brand new album By The Throat, out July 21st on Rhymesayers Entertainment. Their first album since the breakout 2004 release E&A, By The Throat’s songs range from intensely personal topics to the more esoteric (quantum mechanics). The end result is leaps and bounds beyond what MC Eyedea is perhaps best known for, his prowess as a battle rapper (winner of HBO’s Blaze Battle, Scribble Jam and several others). DJ Abilities, also a well-known battle vet and contributor to El-P’s now-classic Fantastic Damage, adds heavily to the sonic soundscape of this album, which advances beyond boom-bap hip-hop into rock-fueled guitar riffs, gritty production and melodic songwriting.

Eyedea and Abilities were instrumental in the wave of independent hip-hop that includes Atmosphere, El-P, Aesop Rock, Living Legends and several other seminal acts. By The Throat is their most progressive and refined effort to date.

E & A will be performing at Rhymesayers’ Soundset ’09 on May 24th and will be headlining a tour in the fall of 2009. They have also been confirmed for the following Rock the Bells dates this summer.
